Do it. We’re on the fourth in our family. Maintenance is higher than some but fun factor and bad weather capability make up for it. I DIY almost all my repairs so its actually cheap to own if you are skilled.

I would definitely be doing anything myself that doesn’t require a lift, and I get cheap parts. The hardest part is finding a manual, Quattro 4000 locally

My 4000 was a blast to daily before it got turned into a LeMons car, I wish I hadn’t done that. Short gears, bulletproof drivetrain, easy to work on, plenty of aftermarket goodies.

Get on Quattroworld and become part of the 4000 forum there. I know about 30 of the guys from that forum from Carlisle Import shows. They know some of the Fourtitude website guys and others. They would be who to talk to on finding a less abused car. Tell them I sent you. I use a new login over there due to assholes on some of the other QW forums who have something against me for no reason, typical trolls but the 4000 guys are good . They have a lot of Midwest , Northeast, Canada and East Coast connections. They frequently post cars that come up for sale in each region. If you want I can give a few a heads up on e-mail or another forum I’m on with them.

Well I already paved the way a little. Gave Mike and Casey a heads up on a private site for a bunch of Audi obsessed guys. They are on the 4000 forum , now whenever you show up you’ll not be perceived as a just another noob.

Exact words by one of them “i have a non-running and very needy 1984 4kq and a coupe gt i’d love to sell”. So whenever you are ready jump on over there and you will be among some of the guys in the US that know a ton about the cars. Also Mark from EFI Express in the North East is one of the most versed on these cars of anyone I’ve met on the East Coast. He is the man for tuning old Audi.

There are guys on there from the Toronto area too. We usually had about 7 guys from The Great White North show up in May at the show :)
